Sup everyone, I'm Ries, your friendly neighbourhood mod and Touhou player. Now, seeing as there are potentially new people to this board who might want to try the fabulous awesome game known as Scarlet Weather Rhapsody or SWR, they need somewhere to start. After all, not everyone can do PINK SHIT SETUPS and 100% LIMIT COMBO and such imba stuff you see in SWR matchvids amirite? So, here's some tips for newbies to start with!
First, you might have heard of its predecessor, Immaterial and Missing Power (IaMP). Whatever you do, don't play this game. It has an impossible learning curve and comboes are actually skill dependent to do! Clearly this game was not made out to be played and actually let people have fun with. This was why SWR was developed, to let people with no skill like you still have fun shooting stars and lasers with chibi lolis and actually pwn doing so.
Now let's get started!
To succeed in SWR, you have to remember these simple rules:
1) Dial-A is fuckwin. Everytime you are close to someone and there are no bullets near you, press the A button and mash it repeatedly. This will result in your chibi loli of choice smacking the enemy chibi loli multiple times yeahyeahcatfightwhoo as well as a COMBO (whoa holy crap) which results in DAMAGE. Which means you are awesome and have a chance of defeating the enemy. It doesn't even matter whether you are, as the Koreans say, GOSU at timing. Just spam the A button repeatedly until they fly across the map or land on the ground and then continue as you were. Combos man. Awesome.
2) Flight. In SWR, the truly wonderful fabulous super special innovation of flight was implemented. Flight is done by pressing the D button in the air along with a direction. Now because SWR is a FIGHTING GAME, you can't get hit by the enemy right? That's exactly what flight lets you do. Now you can fly across the screen avoiding both projectiles and melee while your lousy opponent who doesn't know how to abuse this tactic gets hit by your own because he's stupid! Remember this folks, flight is powerful.
3) DP. What's a DP, you ask? A DP is simply your best move in fighting games. Normally done with complex motions such as 236 or 623 followed by B or C, the amount of effort you need to put in to do this move must surely mean there are great rewards for doing so. And you're right! A DP beats melee, beats projectiles, has range AND has damage! What more could you ask for in a move? Noobs who don't know anything will try to confuse you with stuff such as "zoning" and "blocking" and "movement" but screw them, just use your DP on them and watch their pathetic attempts to troll you fall to your mighty generic uppercut move.
4) Spellcards. Done by pressing the special select button beside D. Very simple to use, just wait for a level 5 one (which means more damage) and press the buttan once you have enough cards to use it. POWERFUL DAMAGE FUCK YEAH
Abuse all these awesome moves and you will surely be victorious. Now, wasn't that simple?
