Seru smiled. The preparations were going splendidly. A rock-skinned, red-eyed Seruin hurried to her. Lord Priestess Maranti Tsak.
"Almighty, the preparations are complete. Our Worldbreaker has been prepared for the voyage."
The black humanoid curtsied gracefully. Seru smiled. Each Patron could seed an unclaimed universe with their own creation, and watch it evolve to its final form. Terrana had her humans, Eve had her Necrolyte virals, and she had her Seruin.
Maranti stood at attention before her Patron. Seru admired her body. Sleek and tough humanoids, with skin as hard as steel. That was how she had made her ultimate creations. Of course, they took longer to evolve and risked being hunted to extinction by races that gained sentience faster, but that was immaterial to one such as her. Their evolution of hard skin and extensive regenerative capabilities guaranteed they would be nearly invincible to spears and such weapons, allowing them to live safely until someone gave their competitors firearms. Their immense intelligence and long life gave her the tools to guide them in their quest for the Key between universes. In other words, Twilight.
The Seruin had invented Twilight millenia ago, and she had taken it and used it in conquest. Until the code had stopped her, there were hundreds of worlds that had fallen to the mighty Seruin armies.
She laughed at how the coalition of Patrons, Olympus, had been driven off by her advancing hordes. The Patron Yahweh had driven them off their last stronghold with Angels and an undying Champion. Overpowered, but still a threat. Ares had tried to come back with his Martians piggybacking on her Twilight, and then the rules had changed, and his forces were left stranded on Earth, where they died of disease.
Humans. Pitiful creatures, with no natural defenses except their incredible wit and ingenuity. Yet Terrana's Humans, loaned to other Patrons, had defeated her forces time and time again, assisted by such as Eve's Necrolyte virals and Yahweh's Angels. Terrana never cared about how many worlds she owned. It was all about her creations. Her and her bloody smart creations.
One of those "bloody smart creations" had somehow found her way before Seru.
"Almighty, the Eran ships are prepared."
Grand Priestess Dethel EnSeru was prostrate on the floor. The highest religious authority and leader of the Eran White Order, she was thrilled with the prospect of personally commanding an operation against the latest universe her Patron had discovered. Erans were a sub-race of Humans, just like the many sub-races that had evolved on every single world where Humans had been present.
`When Terrana had found out Seru was using her Humans without permission, she'd gone berserk. It was, after all, the first world she'd seeded them on. The Human Terran forces of Armoria, and other Terranans all over Terra, were marshalled against the Eran White Order, on their home ground. This was the only world where she'd decided to convert them to her own faith. They weren't indoctrinated towards conquest, though, merely to defend their own homeland. That was an amazing lack of ambition for any Patron. Seru scoffed unconsciously.
"This one apologises! This one is unworthy to be in the presence of the Almighty!"
"Grandmistress, desist. I am not displeased with you, merely recalling a not-so-fond memory of others."
"This one apologises for her mistake!"
The Grandmistress raised her crystal knife and made a small slit in her arm. It healed instantly, but she could still feel the pain. Seru sighed. So this was the result of indoctrinating Humans. They overdid everything.
"Grandmistress, you are to return to your ship and await orders."
"Almighty, I will do as you wish."
The Grandmistress floated back to her Worldbreaker, righting herself to present a good image to her followers.
The Worldbreakers were an incredible achievement. Even Seru couldn't do it alone without help from her Seruin White Order's scientists. Each as big as an entire city, they were new and untested. They had exit capabilities, as shown by their penetration into extradimensional space, but did they have entry capabilities? And especially because it was this world, she was concerned.
From spies she'd sent after the elusive Valentine Ward, Seru had learnt that some force had driven Eve's Champion back to the extradimensional space occupied by Eve. Several ventures into this universe had revealed a tremendous, liquefied source of energy, capable of doing just as her Twilight had done, only better, and in an unclaimed universe! None of the other Patrons had a foothold here. With a huge army, she would be poised to overwhelm whatever local resistance there was, and seize this powerful substance for herself.
Seru projected a vision to all her worshippers, Seruin and Human, gathered in the two Worldbreakers.
"This," (she projected a vision of a shining white liquid) "is our goal. We are after one thing and one thing only. The substance is known as "Propella", in local terminology, and is an extremely powerful energy source that can rip apart the barriers between universes at higher speeds than Twilight. Our mission is to overrun the planet and capture all available supplies of Propella."
Each Worldbreaker had a smaller portal aboard it, which could be used to send reinforcements from the parent universe to where they were needed. Seru wouldn't have to worry about running out of troops, unless the Worldbreakers were destroyed. And that, in her wildest calculations, would never happen in a million years. The Worldbreakers had about a hundred thousand troops aboard each, and a hundred thousand more could be summoned through the portals in as much time as it took them to mass in their homeworlds.
Seru was pretty sure nothing could possibly go wrong.
