Name: Venser Savoir
Species: Human
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Appearance: When out of uniform, Venser wears a white dress shirt and black slacks along with a well-fitting dark blue-grey coat, a cross between a designer suit and a robe. Black Oxfords complete his outfit.
Alternate outfit: Plain white T-shirt with a black blazer, blue jeans, and black loafers.
Physically, he is 180 cm tall and weighs 65 kg. He has Caucasian features, with light grey hair and faded blue eyes.
Personality:Distant and detached, Venser can appear to be aloof and unfriendly most of the time, due to his normally stern expression. In truth, he is a amiable person, albeit one who does not suffer fools gladly. He has a decidedly jaded outlook on life and human nature, due to his awareness of the thoughts of others in every circumstance, but he does recognize that sometimes giving people the benefit of the doubt is important in a relationship. His knowledge of the intentions of others, in conjunction with his keen mind and shining intellect, influence his dealings with other people to a large extent.
Biography: The scion of a noble, magistocratic family, Venser was born with the gift of telepathy, a trait not uncommon amongst his relatives. As House Savoir's only male heir, he is expected to uphold the family name, even if its bloodline is only slightly highborn.
Under the pressure of his parents' expectations, he completed his magical education well ahead of time, but the strain of doing so, combined with the gradual strengthening of his telepathic abilities, had a deleterious effect on his state of mind. At one point, his telepathy waxed to the point that he unwittingly became privy to a nefarious plan that would spell the doom of every single person in the school - but he shunned all knowledge of it, convincing himself that it had just been a figment of his imagination.
Yet after that incident, he began to push himself even harder, believing that failure to graduate before the plan came to fruition would mean certain death for him. Of course, it would also mean certain death for everyone else in the Academy of Arcanis... but he could hardly accuse the headmaster Gestalt himself of conspiracy to massacre - that would only end in a litigious lashing. Furthermore, he himself wasn't even sure that the plan was real - for all he knew, it might have been the product of his own overactive imagination. There was no way to know. No way to find out. The only thing he could do was secure his own escape from it, ensuring that whether or not it came to pass, he would be unscathed.
Or so he thought.
Nearly a week after his graduation, he'd come to the conclusion that his misgivings had been unfounded - they had been nothing more than his own idle imaginings, after all. It would have been foolish to confront the headmaster about it, considering that he was one of the most accomplished mages in the world. A silly idea, really.
On the seventh midnight after he'd left his alma mater, he awoke from a deep sleep to the chilling realization that something was horribly wrong. He didn't know what it was - just that somewhere, something unspeakable had occurred, and he was somehow connected to it. It wasn't until the next morning that he saw the news.
The entirety of the Academy of Arcanis had been converted into a massive mana battery, drawing power from the imprisoned souls of its former residents. They were as good as dead, their wills and minds having been subsumed into the mana pool of whoever had created the battery - in short, they existed only to provide their master with power. For days afterwards, the streets were rife with rumors and speculation as to the identity of the villain behind it.
Venser didn't listen to any of it. He didn't need to. He knew exactly who it was - he'd known ever since that day. And yet...
Nothing. He hadn't done anything to stop Gestalt.
In the days and weeks to come, he would drift into a deep, dark depression bordering on psychosis, brooding over everything he could have done to prevent it all from happening. Guilt and self-loathing grated upon his psyche, bringing him ever closer to the brink of insanity.
-
After half a year in convalescent care, he gradually began to come to terms with the reality of the situation. Over time, it became possible to accept the role that he'd played in it. The only thing - the most important thing - that remained... was to move on.
As such, he arranged to enroll at the Academy in order to lead life at a more relaxed pace, treating it as a means of recuperation.
(This biography of Venser is an alternate reality running parallel to his previous incarnation, in which he doesn't take action to stop Gestalt. As a result, he doesn't have the immense power sealed within him that he did in the previous RP, and his character is slightly different.)
Abilities (if any): Venser is able to read the minds of people around him, with greater clarity and depth the longer they remain within the area around him.
In addition, he is proficient in magic, being able to cast various spells, ranging from petty cantrips to potent sorceries.
Other: Venser possesses a familiar, Guile, an elemental spirit that is bound to him. Usually, it takes the form of a common housepet, such as a cat or a bird, though it can shift into different animals. It is even possible for Venser to dismiss it into another plane entirely should the need arise.
