Hai I'm asparagus!
About PoFV:
People probably dont like this as much, it being a danmaku game and such (I am saying this as in comparison with IaMP and SWR) but well its not too bad anyway. Anyways, I think this should be helpful (or not).
Also, I'm not bothering to make one for IaMP yet.
On to PoFV!
General:
1) What you should realise about PoFV is that it is very substantially different from the other danmaku shooters. Besides being for two players, probably the most important difference is that the bullet patterns of PoFV are, for the most part rather randomised. Although it is good to memorise some basic patterns, like e.g. what happens when reimu's level two comes at you, there are substantially less of these as compared to traditional danmaku games. Reflex dodging (especially in lunatic, when the bullets are rather fast) and planned doging (looking at what bullets are coming at you, and then planning a way out) are the key here, rather than memorisation. In other words, you can't treat this like a normal curtain fire game.
Players and Characters:
1) What you pick is up to you. Some tips on characters: Reimu and Youmu have _A LOT_ of annoying danmaku, and while Youmu has a slower charge her level 1 can destroy anything. Charge in advance if you use Youmu. Lunasa can be annoying, if you use your level twos correctly to force the opponent into her ex's, of which there are tons of. Medicine is also rather useful as her clouds can become an extremely major irritant for the slower characters such as yuka, and reimu, etc. up to the point which moving even unfocused hardly takes you anywhere. Sikieki is, well, fairly good, mainly because of her ex. You _HAVE_ to aim to get a lot of the on the other screen by destroying spirits. I'm not going to talk about the other chars here, if you want to go ahead.
Ps. Using Sakuya can be suicidal, since playing unfocused is practically suicide, but Sakuya's focus is rather erratic.
Winning:
1) Destroy things in chains. A standard technique, if you destroy things in chains, your bonus point gauge fills up faster, and you get a free boss faster, and also, _IT CLEARS A LOT OF BULLETS FROM THE SCREEN, MAKING YOUR LIFE EASIER_. One thing about this is that if you know how to do this and your opponent dosent (i.e. he just keeps shooting) you may be in danger of having your boss being overwritten. What you can do is to have your bonus points go to like 7000 to get some bullets on the other screen so your opponent can keep his/her Bonus points, and then let your B-points drop to 0. Then once your opponent gets/is about to get a boss, you can quietly build up your Bonus points, and overwrite his/her boss instead.
2) FOCUS! Converting spirits to little bubbles makes them easy to explode, and they move a lot of bullets to the other side when exploded. A moot point for Sakuya, her focus is really horrifying, and can kill you easily. Also, this does not mean you should have a perpetual focus, since this can kill you as well.
3) Using your levels. Choose one a) Calm, safe approach. Try to use level 3s instead of level 2s since they have no destructible bullets. b) Slightly less calm approach. Use level 2s. Level 2s are pretty awesome in many obvious ways, mostly because they clear bullets and make you invincible. Furthermore, they are easy to attain and they can send tons of bullets to the other side.
4) Bombing. A last resort, clearly.
5) Destroy things wisely, in chains and try to remove a lot of bullets as well. This also mean you must....
6)... Shoot wisely. i.e., don't keep spamming the shot button.
7) General strategy. There are 3 of them. a) Conservative. Your bonus gauge dosent matter too much, just dont drop it too many times. If your gauge gets to 50000, drop it to 0, to get more free bosses. Not shooting clears the screen of danmaku. b) Wild dodging. Generally the more fun one to do, KEEP YOUR BONUS GAUGE. Let it get to max (99990 points) and then you will build levels almost instantly. By this point, a level 2 can replenish it self about half a second or so after invincibility ends. However, going very high with the bonus gauge means a lot of bullets. Make sure you can dodge well if you are going to do this.
Miscellaneous:
1) Bomb Trading: Annoying. Sometimes (most of the time), it may not be the best idea for players to keep bombing alternately. Resist the temptation to clear your opponents level 2 with your own level 2, as this may lead to your opponent retaliating, and both of you wasting your levels. However, sometimes (most of the time) it can be hard to resist.
2) MAX GAUGE BONUS IS AMAZING. If you see one spam all your levels in by level 2s, bomb if no time, etc. and then get the gauge. You can continue spamming your level 2's or not. It is almost a confirm hit.
3) Moving only a little at a time. After playing for a while, you will probably notice that the randomly generated white bullets and some of the not so random ones are aimed at you (which is pretty obvious). However, they are not aimed _DIRECTLY_ at you, but instead they are aimed _ROUGHLY around where you are. This means that if you are faced with a bullet wall you dont think you can survive and you dont instantly see a way out (and not enough levels), you can just adjust yourself a little to somewhere less vulnerable, sit there and shoot and hope for the best, that all the bullets miss you, or your gauge charges to a level 2 before they hit so you can use it. This also leads to another tactic:
4) (Pseudo-)Streaming danmaku. At least I think that's what its called. Since the danmaku is aimed roughly at you, you can basically treat it all of the bullets are aimed at you, with some extras bullets flying randomly at your direction. So what you then do is to move at a regulated rate to one of the sides (preferably the one further away), so that the majority of the bullets miss and so you only have to dodge some random bullets which could actually hit you.
K thats all lol.
