"Sir, the missiles don't seem to be moving away."
"Damn!"
He noticed Kamin launching her lances of light.
"Let's leave the missiles to her. Release Blitz: 1000 Needles, centre fire zone on Su-37 Terminator. Set grid pattern, 300 by 300, dynamic net with remaining 100 needles."
A thousand needles, each radiating sufficient electricity that it arced between them, flew in a large arc in perfect formation. They dropped straight down in a 300-by-300 metre square drop pattern, the Terminator in the centre. The remaining one hundred needles functioned as a dynamic net, circling constantly around the grid at high speed and sparking electricity, preventing escape. The electricity arcing between each needle in both the grid and net would short out most anything electrical it touched.

Sierra considered the scene carefully. Everyone seemed busy. She began humming an old Undine tune that she used to sing when the spirits played hide and seek.
Dream Variation. Level 1.
The Undine shimmered and then her form collapsed in water. A second later, two forms rose. Two Sierras.
--- HP: 140 / 140 MP: 185 / 185 ---
"Hello." One of the said
"Looks like it worked." Said the other.
Satisfied with the result, Sierra, in her spirit form, entered one of the forms. "I need to get closer. Will you help me?"
Of course, the other form nodded, and both of them gathered the water from the atmosphere until the two were surrounded in a web of liquid.
"After I get in the air, I need you to cover me." Sierra told her other form as she surveyed the positions of her allies in the air. Stepping stones. "The enemy missiles use magic to lock on, according to Yuki. Please spread your water out and run your mana long the web of liquid. Now go."
Her other form leapt up several hundred meters and extended a whip of water towards Kamin, who had finished her spell. "Sorry, master's orders." She yelled as she used Kamin as a stepping stone in the air. Afterwords, the form extended towards Constantine to do the same, and swung as hard as she could towards the plane.
"Good." Sierra, on the ground smiled at the prowess of the spirits. And then, she leapt into the sky as well, following the same route as her double, but with her double in front of her, she got an extra stepping stone. She silently apologized to Kamin and Constantine, and hoped that they weren't too startled.
Of course, she knew that now, she was completely vulnerable to whatever the aircraft had to offer. In addition, Constantine had launched some electrical mechanisms, which would hopefully recognize her as an ally. The other Sierra had begun to drop due to gravity, and she knew that she didn't have many seconds left herself before she lost her momentum.
Working quickly, she spiked her water web with her mana, and shot it full force towards the aircraft. Then she began to fall.
--- HP: 140 / 140 MP: 0 / 185 ---
((OoC: This probably won't work very well, considering how quickly everyone posts. =_= But just consider this. She has a nice web of water in the air, somewhere close to the plane that is fully controllable because it's spiked with her mana. =D))

66th Knight - Cipher
The HARMs broke apart in mid-air, falling harmlessly to the ground in several dozen pieces.
The girl on the cliff - she has wings now? How quaint - had launched a light attack that cleaved them.
When precision doesn't work, just spray and pray, eh?
The person who had thrown the kunai in the first place - a manipulator of electricity and metal, he guessed - had now thrown an attack his way, a seemingly unavoidable web of needles that threatened to short out his systems the same way a bolt of lightning did.
These were no ordinary enemies. But he was no ordinary pilot.
It was a fast moving sphere of needles, yes - but there were holes. There were always holes. Only a hundred needles covering a 27 million cubic metre area - there were a lot of holes.
Cipher relaxed, let his instincts guide him. His hand moved ever so slightly, making hyperminute adjustments to the flight path of the plane.
Wait... wait... NOW!
He pushed the plane to full throttle, flipped a switch, threw on the afterburners that blasted the plane forward.
The Su-37 rolled - rolled, ever so minutely - and in an instant, he had escaped the sphere. He had escaped through a narrow gap barely the width needed for his plane to exit - and all he had to show for it were a few scratches on the tailfin of the jet.
Missiles don't work - guns, then.
The jet swerved, the thrust vectoring angled fifteen degrees down - the whole frame was threatening to warp from the pressure of air travelling at over 1,400 kilometres per hour.
This was probably the first time anyone saw a plane travelling over Mach 1 horizontally - with its nose pointed to the ground.
The sights were focused directly on Sierra.
Good night.
The 30mm GSh-30-1 autocannon fired, firing off fifteen rounds at the falling figure - merciless, perfectly aimed rounds, each designed to take out an enemy fighter plane in one shot.

"I somehow knew this would happen." Sierra observed quietly as the plane dodged Constantine's supposedly "impenetrable sphere." She was unnaturally calm for a person who was currently falling from dangerous heights.
As she expected, the aircraft came after her next and fired.
Within the millisecond, she dissipated her web of water into smaller drops and moved the entire cloud in the path of the fast-moving jet. She would have done more, but the pilot was good, whoever he was.
--- HP: 0 / 140 MP: 0 / 185 ---
The other form had since reached the ground, and sensed the plight of the real Sierra.
"Master...!" She gasped, as the life signature of the Undine's form disappeared.
There is no need to worry. I am here.
The other form breathed a sigh of relief. Sierra's spirit had left her other form before it had been completely destroyed.
You have done exceptionally well. Please let me take over from here.
Sierra's form closed its eyes, and shimmered as the spiritual transfer took place. When her eyes opened again, she was in control. The water that the previous form had controlled was released from its magical hold, and Sierra sensed the water that she had spiked her mana with.
In the air. She looked up, in time to feel small droplets of water. Sierra shuddered, knowing that this was probably what remained of her previous form.
She continued what her previous form was unable to. She moved her cloud towards the jet, and the two met in the air. The water, oozing with her mana, clung to the aircraft as it danced in the sky.
Now, I will seek a way in.
She was still in danger. As far as she could tell, she was one of the closer individuals to the jet, though if height counted, Kamin and Constantine weren't so far themselves. But hopefully, the pilot would at least be somewhat distracted by the menacing water droplets of doom?

66th Knight - Cipher
Cipher knew something was wrong right away.
His radar blip had grown several times in size.
One of their attacks connected.
The water. It had been spiked with magic. Water that now covered his aircraft.
...But nothing's happening yet. So I won't bother with it for now.
The plane continued on its path, flying across the sky even as Cipher angled the nose of the jet again. Another strafing run - this time at the pair closest to him again, Constantine and Kamin. Seventy rounds shot through the air, perfectly aimed and blocking off all routes of escape.

"Sir! It escaped!"
Constantine was mad. This thing was nearly impossible to get rid of.
The needles stopped whirling. Constantine noticed that the Terminator was covered in water.
"This couldn't be better. Ai, reverse polarity on those needles. I want them positively charged."
Electricity travelled from negatively charged things to positively charged things.
"Iron Dust: Infiltration."
The intakes of that thing would suck in the cloud of positively charged particles. Perfect.
"Let's see you dodge lightning."
Then he felt something tear through his body. He floated free of the messy-looking, disgusting shell that had once been a human.
"Eh?"
"It's alright, sir, I've got you."
He looked down. Where his heart would normally be was instead the AI chip.
"So now I'm dead, huh?"
He watched as the cloud of dust was sucked towards the Terminator by its slipstream.

Venser had just received a reply from Constantine when he noticed a few things. Firstly, in addition to the missiles aimed at the people in the base, there was now one gunning for him. Secondly, an explosion of light from within the base had taken out the missiles.
Huh. I'd thought they'd explode in midair if you did that. Oh well, no time to think about that now.
He took a second, closer, look at the lances of light, just beginning to fade.
That spell's not yet done resolving. Think I can reach out to it?
You could try working across the channel between here and there. You'll need to work fast, though.
He did work fast. Barely a split second had elapsed between him observing everything and Evermind replying to him. He pointed a finger at the lances of light, quickly made a note of the spell specifics, and imprinted them onto his own string of morphic mana.
He stood back, and his mind, working quickly, noticed something else. If he sidestepped slightly and changed his angle, the lances would be shooting for the plane as well as piercing the missile heading for him.
Half a second passed.
Releasing the spell as he moved, he snapped his hand back slightly, like a child pretending to shoot a gun with his fingers.
Bang.
Something's bothering me here, though. How'd that pilot lock on to me? I've only ever heard of heat-seeking missiles, and the stuff in that base - machinery and whatnot - should be giving off way more heat than little old me.
So maybe those missiles aren't looking for heat. You know that one of them was heading for you. What can you think of that you've got in abundance?
Well, I know they're not cash-seeking missiles, that's for sure.
After a short moment's thought, he thought he had the answer.
Magic. That's got to be it. But the pilot's bound to have other tricks up his sleeve than just this. What to do now?

66th Knight - Cipher
It is common knowledge that military fighter aircraft use turbofans to operate. The Su-37 Terminator uses twin Lyulka AL-31FP turbofans, each generating 145 kilonewtons of thrust, or 32 thousand pounds per square foot.
The intakes are filtered to prevent large particles getting into the turbofans.
The intakes, however, are not filtered against dust.
The iron dust particles swept through the intakes, past the forward compressors, and into the main compression chamber -
Where they became molten metal.
Turbofans have no valves or trapping inlets that stop objects or similar material from entering the engine. Similarly, there is nothing to stop them going out.
The Sukhoi jet swung around, and pushed to full military power to make up for lost airspeed, coming around for another pass, and spewing out molten metal in its wake.
The other HARM blipped off his screen behind him, lost in a sea of radar jam so huge it made the needles seem like a little puddle. The attack passed narrowly behind him, wildly disrupting the thrust of his twin engines and temporarily destabilising the craft - which Cipher corrected in thirty miliseconds.
So, they've got all sorts of methods of dealing with me. Well, no matter.
Because in their efforts to defeat the plane, they had forgotten something.
The Sukhoi jet was now well in position over the Empire's base.
Bombs away.
The GBU-43/B fell - and Cipher's plane was barely seven hundred feet above the ground.
Six and a half seconds before the entire base was reduced to molten shreds.
"Bombs away. Mission complete. Returning to base."
Cipher did a quick Immelmann over the base, and recovering from the half roll, went to maximum power, speeding over Mach 2 as he returned to where he had come from. The twin afterburners glowed bright blue, heralding a quick retreat from battle.
In missions, only the objective matters. Everything else comes a distant second - even pride and honour.

Yuki had been useless in the fight against the plane, but he refused to let that situation continue to the missile. Especially not when they had already lost team members in the process of the battle. For him to be able to do nothing, that was a terrible insult to him, especially when an entire base of otherwise innocent people was at stake.
At least the plane was flying away now. That gave him the opening he needed to work uninterrupted.
"Kamin, how long would it take for you to charge up enough power to destroy the missile? Even if it gets armed, as long as it doesn't hit the base directly, the point-defence nanobots should be able to block off most of the damage."
Judging by the speed of descent, and this was Yuki's magically guided instinct for falling objects talking, it would take just under six and a half seconds before impact. If he expended all his magic at once, he could change the speed of descent and give them twice as much time to work with.
If only he was stronger, he could send the bomb flying right back up with gravity reversal, but he would have to make do with reduction for now. Locally altering the effect of gravity on a ten ton mass was not exactly child's play as it stood, and being able to do anything to it was already a testament to his willpower.
On the other hand, if thirteen seconds was not enough to destroy the bomb... Then everything he did would be useless. Perhaps it would be better if he used his power to allow somebody to reach the bomb more quickly... Decisions, decisions.

This doesn't bode well. Not for me directly, but...
I'm torn over this, really. On one hand, if that bomb falls, everything down there is going to be destroyed. On the other, if everything down there gets destroyed, I don't have to worry about them coming after me.
Is there anything you could do to stop it?
No. Probably not. Standing idly by doesn't sit well with me, though. Even if I don't care for the Empire, there're still some people I know in there. I'm assuming the fliers can get away by themselves, but the groundbound aren't quite as fortunate. Unless they're planning to stop it from falling, which seems a fool's errand.
Maybe they can pull it off. Maybe not. I don't know what they can do. But I know what I can.
So you're going in.
It wasn't a question, even.
Does it occur to you that you might be reliving an old nightmare here? If you were undertaking some other suicidal act I might attribute it to bravado or overconfidence, which we both know you don't exhibit often. This, though... this feels like guilt.
Venser phased into the Grid and started shifting towards the site of the bomb's imminent impact.
I know. I'm going against my better judgment here. Everything about this screams at me to run, to get out while I still can - and yet here I am.
What kind of person would I be if I didn't at least try to help? What I do can determine who lives and who dies - that much I know.
It's my move. I have to make it count.
He rippled through the æther, re-emerging in the base, next to Yuki, Sol, and Tsubasa. Still in ethereal form, he spoke to them mentally, since he wouldn't be able to articulate a sentence without a physical windpipe.
"Are you in need of assistance here? When you didn't reply to my last message I'd hoped it meant everything was fine, but clearly we're in a great deal more danger than previously suspected."

Kamin would have been pleased to answer Yuki's question - if she wasn't more preoccupied with the gaping hole where her stomach used to be.
She had managed to escape most of the assault through creative use of Sagitta Magica and her flight capabilities, but the bullets were very well aimed.
Last ditch attempt then...
Kamin gathered all her strength, and put it into raising her S2-AM.
"Irefir Convecta Inponis, Ulysse ou Igles..."
The barrel glowed with light - then faded.
...I can't do it.
Kamin lurched. Her consciousness was fading away.
Please stop it... She uttered a silent prayer as she faded out.
Her limp body fell to the ground, her wings gracing her back like a cradle of snow.
[Kamin is out of battle.]

((And this is why I hate the posting speed.))
Sierra felt something akin to shock and embarrassment, but worse, as she watched each of her comrades drop. What was this? This wave of... Fury. Rage. Something about not being able to react in time.
The mana coating the aircraft was no longer of any use to her as the immediate concern became the bomb that dropped. Her eyes glazed over for a second, clear and glassy blue.
Freeze that cursed piece of scrap metal. She whispered in her mind. Sierra pictured a jet-sized snowflake in the air where the aircraft and its pilot would be, though the real result would probably be less dramatic. She was too far to cause any deaths with her new-found Fury. The most that would happen would be engine failure, and maybe parts of the aircraft breaking apart, due to the sudden change in temperature. Close to absolute zero, though just for a millisecond.
Then she snapped out of it.
Sierra continued to survey the scene before her, as if nothing had happened. Temporary possession. By whom?
She racked her brains for something that could work. Spirits. No. Only water. How? The bomb was incredibly heavy, which ruled out the idea of holding it up. She would have to be 20 times stronger than she was now. Was it still possible to short out the circuits of the bomb from within? Every mechanical device ran on some circuit, energy source, etc. If she could stop the system, the bomb would not go off. It would only drop like a large stone, and perhaps leave a crater in its wake, but at least no one will be killed.
"Yuki! Venser!" Sierra yelled as quickly as she could, to avoid wasting time. "Can I stop the bomb from the inside? Water, ice? If you say yes, then consider it done. I'm ready!"
She wanted to be sure, so she didn't blow the thing up by accident with her tinkering.

"Kamin! Damn this all to hell." Yuki snarled inwardly as the bomb continued to fall, and he wished for nothing more than to drag the pilot out of his plane and beat him to death. Preferably savagely with nothing more than his fists. His priorities on the other hand, were different from his wishes. Right now, what had to be stopped was the bomb, not the plane. If he let the bomb fall, it would be far more than just Kamin and Constantine.
"Sierra! Just freeze the bomb! I'll slow it down! Venser... Do whatever it is that you do."
Focusing all of his magic, Yuki concentrated on the bomb that was falling, commanding every fibre of power he could muster up to slow down its descent. Gravity was one of the four fundamental forces of the universe. At its weakest it drew people to each other, and at its strongest, it could destroy the universe and more. Slowing down a ten ton bomb... It should have been an easy thing to do, except Yuki was still far too weak. Halving gravity's pull on the bomb was just about everything he could do, and it was an effort that he would never be able to replicate if not for the circumstances.

'Ok screw it..no time left..'
Sol break the chains, transform into his demon form, and began to concentrate on creating a building to hold the bomb.
'It won't explode if it's head doesn't touch anything..right?'
Four pillars emerged from the ground and beams appeared from it, holding the bomb in place by it's tail. The pillars continued to rise to a height of about 50m and more beams appeared while it's rising, attaching themselves onto nearby buildings to support the weight of the bomb.
'I wonder if this is sufficient...'

The bomb hung precariously by its tail fins, swinging dangerously as ten tons of dead weight hung off less than twenty kilograms of metal.
It was a very temporary solution.
The bomb was not an impact bomb - it would go off when its head was within thirty five metres of the ground.
It now hung at forty.
When it started to drop, the bomb would take approximately half a second to reach its targeted height. With Yuki's intervention, one second.
The head swung precariously, the tail fins grinding heavily as they strained to take the weight of the bomb.
They broke.
The bomb started to fall. Thirty nine metres, thirty eight, thirty seven...
And stopped. It hovered precariously in mid air, gyrating slightly.
"Well, that's that, then."
Yuriko stood in the central corridor of the base, one hand pointed in the air. The concentrated psionic energy warped the air, creating mirage-like currents as she mentally dislodged the priming devices, then lowered the bomb gently to the ground.
"I appreciate your help in giving me sufficient time to get here, but it's our jurisdiction from now on. Thank you for your effort."
She turned to go. The ten ton bomb, five times her size, gently floated up, then followed her as she moved toward central headquarters.
"Oh, by the way..."
She turned and smiled.
"This place is open to you anytime. Do come and visit. If you can, we'd highly appreciate it if your group could tell the New Technia government to stop attacking us and allow us to negotiate for a solution. It's better for everyone this way."
Empire of the Rising Sun base now open for training in firearms, flight combat, vehicle combat and purchasing arms.

That's her. I think it's our cue to exit, stage left. Now that everyone else's out of danger, I'm about to get into serious trouble. I don't like being a braggadocio, and perhaps I overestimated my ability to deal with this. What would I have done, anyway? Created another bunch of pillars? I'd probably just have hit the bomb with them and killed everyone prematurely.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Stop rationalizing and let's split.
Fine, fine. My crisis of conscience has been resolved now, at any rate. I feel like I should explain myself, even if there isn't a chance that they'll listen.
You'd better make it fast.
It was fast - just a faintly glowing message in the space he'd just been floating in.
"Sorry."
And he was up and out, leaving the New Technia landscape far behind him as he warped across the Grid.

"Well, I was going to ask if the Empire had any healing facilities but..."
Yuki watched as Tsubasa dragged the fallen of the group away and shrugged, wondering how she was going to pay for everything when he was the one with all the money. Of course, he did not mind compensating whoever paid for everything, but that was for when everything was over and done with. For now, there was something more important he had to do.
"How am I supposed to get back to New Technia from here?"
Shrugging visibly, he decided that the best way to deal with something like that was by asking the Empire of the Sun what vehicles they had to spare. There was no way he was going to walk all the way back, he could not fly, and his magic was completely dried out. Under these circumstances, he just simply had to get a car. There was nothing else for it.
Besides, he was interested in that girl that had casually lifted the ten ton bomb off the ground like that. Gravity control meant that mass was rarely the most pressing matter when manipulating ascent and descent, but from what he could tell, what she had was telekinesis, and telekinesis was definitely affected by mass and weight. Plus, she was cute, but that was obviously beside the point when anyone could tell she was just a bit mental. Not to mention she looked about fifteen, which was a bit too young for him anyway.
"I wonder what kind of pick-up line would that make? I like you because you're good at blowing stuff up... Nope, doesn't work."
Yuki ended up muttering to himself as he walked back to the Empire base.

Walking into the base, Yuki looked around for somebody he could annoy, briefly wondering where the girl that had saved all of them was. He wanted to get a vehicle he could use, preferably one which had possible combat applications in the future, and the transforming Tengu things seemed to be a good choice. There were a lot of things one could do with a plane if one could mess around with gravity, and besides, he was pretty much one of the only people around who could not fly, teleport, or otherwise move from place to place really quickly.
Of course, he did not really know how to fly a plane, but that, like almost everything else, could be fixed with sufficient money, which thankfully, he happened to have right now.
"So, could somebody point me to where to go if I want to buy a Tengu?"
While he waited for the answer, Yuki looked at the note that the Emperor had handed him, and pulled out the one Marisa had given him as well, and compared the two. It only made sense that the ones who stole the bomb had to belong in both lists, and that would really make life easier for all of them.
Although somehow Yuki believed that the answer was much simpler, and had to do with the plane that had attacked them a while ago.

Looking over the choices he had, Yuki decided to just go with the one that had a gun, and could fit two people. It was more expensive, but he could afford it, so it was all well and good. Besides, even if nobody wanted to operate the electronic warfare equipment, he could just use it as an ordinary Tengu without too much slowdown, so there was no reason not to get one. Apart from prohibitive cost, which he could get around by waving his wallet right now, since he was just short of five million richer than he really had any right to be.
"I'll take the electronics warfare unit please. Does it come with a manual?"
Yuki had, of course, never flew a plane before, much less a plane that could transform into a land assault unit and back. He could probably figure it out with some instructions, but that was assuming it came with instructions in the first place. If not, he would have to spend some extra time and money learning how to fly a plane. Worth it, though, so he would do that anyway.
"So next up..."
He turned to the two lists and compared them, before putting a finger onto the Nasul Royal Army that appeared on both. That was their next target for now, and there was every chance it was more dangerous than this trip was, and just perhaps, they might encounter Cipher again.
