33rd Knight - Misaka Mikoto
"The shields are intelligent."
Mikoto had silently watched as the small group had attempted their first shots on the fighter craft. It was like something straight out of a Persian myth.
Our arrows will block out the sun, eh?
Mikoto had, of course, not been idling. At that exact moment, fifty SAM installations and many more anti-aircraft turrets roared to life, and started spitting rounds into the air for all they were worth.
"The shields allow attacks to exit and not enter the area. However, they are programmed to allow all bioelectric signatures to enter."
Mikoto pointed at the closest fighter - an F-16E - which was spearheading an arrowhead formation headed for the base.
"All those planes are piloted. Which means they'll all be able to enter."
But of course, we're all doing our best to prevent it.
"Mikoto!"
A voice came from behind. Yuriko was floating over on a cushion of psionic energy.
"Are these the ones? There seems to be more than when I met them back at home base." Yuriko regarded the small group with interest.
"Yes, actually, all of them. A few new additions, no doubt. I assume, though, that you came up here for something else?"
Yuriko smiled. "Of course. It's time to swat the flies that are going straight to the feast instead of buzzing outside like they should be."
"And I assume you've brought the insecticide, then?" Mikoto remarked slyly.
"Indeed. But I'm lacking in aerosol, you see."
The two shared a short laugh at something only the two of them understood.
"Well, against large objects, I can only pull one at a time. But when it's small objects..."
Five hundred .88 AP rounds floated out of a box behind her. Their tips tracked the various aircraft that were already readying their bombs.
"I provide the poison..."
"Then I provide the means. I know, I know." Mikoto clasped her hands together. A pale blue glow surrounded her, and the lights around started to flicker. The gentle hum of ionizing air steadily grew louder.
Misaka Mikoto, codename Static-Fox.
Unofficial designation: Railgun.
BOOM.
An intense wave of electrical energy permeated the air, the uncontainable overwash arcing from building to building like lightning between thunderclouds.
The sound of five hundred bullets breaking the sound barrier.
Five hundred streaks of light emanated from the same spot on the floating fortress.
Five hundred point masses, each travelling well in excess of three times the speed of sound.
Five hundred planes exploded instantly.
Mikoto stood at the point of incidence, her arms outstretched, lightning still jumping between her fingers and the ground. The previous shot had been successful, all right.
But there still remained three thousand and ten fighter aircraft still circling the base like hawks. And her energy would take a while to charge up again.

This time, as Kuroi Tsuki was swept up into the skies by Tsubasa, he already had the mental preparation.
"One minute... Got it!"
Kuroi Tsuki replied to Tsubasa as the winds picked up clouds from the sky, and the typhoon started to make its appearance. Taking note of the wind direction. He wasted no time hesitating.
He flung the two MLDs, one above the other, which deviated about 10 meters across as they were caught by the typhoon. He whipped out 6 other MLDs and did the same, flinging them out pair by pair. Forming two rotating squares, one above the other, rotating at the same speed. With the additional moisture in the air with the help of Sierra, he predicted that the MLDs could have some extra range of connection.
"Kassei!"
Kuroi Tsuki exclaimed. The daggers sparkled and within a few moments, hidden in the typhoon, was a floating rotating electrical wall, 10 meters in vertical length, and about 20 to 30 meters across.
As long as the typhoon would last, so would this trap. Any unsuspecting planes getting swept off course into this typhoon would have its engine fried. Or at least, disabled and possibly stunning the pilot inside.
"I'm done for now. Thanks a million Tsubasa. And lets hope you can keep that typhoon up a little longer. You could drop me now if you wish."
Kuroi Tsuki shouted amongst the hollering wind surrounding them on all sides.
Let this work out... No... I'm sure it will work out!

"That's not much of a weakness at all. If any of those planes get close, we always have our ways and means of taking them out. I could certainly do it better if they were within arm's reach than if they were half a mile away. Case in point..."
Gravitons set, weight at constant, adjustment for wind speed complete.
Go!
A black sphere briefly surrounded Yuki's body, part of the visual effect of his magic, and he broke out of it in a run, leaping off the edge of the base with absolute conviction. A leap which would end with most people dead, from being riddled with bullets if not from the extremely, extremely long fall. Fortunately for Yuki, he had the resources to prevent both from happening and then some.
Nanobots, full spread.
The Point Defence Nanobots proceeded to surround him on all sides, leaving only his front open. He needed at least that much to be able to continue fighting after all.
Drawing his WaveForce katana as he started his descent, Yuki locked on to one formation of planes that he did not recognise, constantly adjusting his magic to make sure he landed on the leader of the diamond.
"One down." He smiled as he slashed cleanly across the body of the plane, separating the cockpit from the rest of the plane.
"And here's one more." He continued as in the same motion, he grabbed the part he had just cut away and threw it at the plane's wingmen, knocking it out of the sky.
"And now to protect myself." He finished as he ducked into the nanobot sphere, letting the explosion fling him elsewhere without Yuki himself sustaining any major injuries.

Instead of deciding that they are already destroyed by your attack, even though they're just small pawns.

"I don't think we really would want to drop him amidst the swarm of planes and at such a altitude. I suppose we could swap already."
Exhaustion had breached Tsubasa. Flying at such altitudes while carrying someone was more than she could actually take.
Fine, you can take over.
"Evocatio valcyriarum."
She dropped Kuroi into a Valkyrie, and writhed at that instant. Tsubasa's eyes illuminated a dim, lusty crimson.
"Flans Saltatio Pulverea..."
Tsubasa threw hordes of planes into each other, smashing some while clustering the rest together; out of formation.
"Malleus Fulguratio."
Utilising the Lightning Arc MKIII as a source of energy, Tsubasa melded static winds together to create a lightning mallet and brought it down on the planes. Tsubasa clasped her hands together, and started yet another incantation.

Kuroi Tsuki knew he was being dropped, and was prepared. However, he somehow ended up in the arms of a Valkyrie. Not that he didn't appreciate it, but he believed that the Valkyrie could be of better use to Tsubasa.
The Valkyrie descended at a moderate speed, nearing the barrier of the floating base. At the same moment, a group of planes were speeding in their direction.
"Hey bro, I think I could get off here, you may wanna go help Tsubasa"
Kuroi Tsuki said, or rather, requested. With that being said, he gently flung himself off the hold of the Valkyrie, right into the path of the planes. Raising his right hand behind his left shoulder, he tilted the waveforce Katana slung on his back to his right shoulder blade. Gripping tightly onto the handle of the waveforce Katana, he got ready to slice through as many planes he could, together with the use of his "Light Step".
Now lets see what this fella can do... Here I come!!!

It looks like the advance guard has arrived. Still, there's no time to be complacent. A shield that lets manned aircraft pass straight through it is... strange, I'd say. That's quite a weakness.
Venser realised that something subtle had changed in the environment. It felt almost as if it were going to rain...in his mind. He breathed in, and smelt the trace of magic dispersed all around them. Not just them, for that matter. Now that he saw it, there were particles of magical energy clinging to each of the planes surrounding them.
Now that's interesting. I could definitely make that work to my advantage.
Reaching out through the mana-saturated air, and extending his influence to encompass every single particle of water that held a magical charge, he now had effective control over the entire sky around them.
Clever. Aligning the properties of the energy in the air to your sphere of influence lets you resonate a spell throughout it without using any amplification methods.
Now I need only imagine their ruin and the world will reflect it.
Oh, really.
Nah, probably not just yet. I can still send them to their final resting places, though.
He began reciting an incantation under his breath.
Don't forget to configure it to ignore allies, though. You might not be able to pass off those casualties as necessary sacrifices for the greater good.
Good point.
As he finished the final words of the modified incantation, he looked up at the seemingly endless waves of incoming enemies.
Rest well.
The sleep-inducing sorcery pulsed from every droplet of water suspended in the skies, sending the unfortunate people piloting the attack force into the realm of dreams. Possibly forever, given that they were 50 thousand feet in the air and sealed into metal coffins.

Everything before was built up for this moment.
Tsubasa gathered the leftover static from the earlier attacks; the typhoon that whipped up electricity in the surrounding area, dispersing energy everywhere; then, the lightning mallet - there was enough to saturate the entire area with one blast.
"Fulguratio Albicans."
From every corner where her previous spells had landed white lightning bolts jumped and enveloped the aircrafts.
I hope you're done, we need to conserve mana.

Sierra sensed Venser taking hold of her mana and then releasing a spell through her web.
...!
Her vessel convulsed for a second, and she coughed out blood. Or rather, what she had created to emulate blood.
It is too powerful for me to maintain. I didn't think the effects would be this intense.

Regardless, the Undine didn't move from her spot. She was going to hold on to this web, no matter what. Considering the magical prowess of most of her companions, this would certainly serve to amplify their abilities.
It doesn't seem like I have much more energy left though.

Kamin quickly took stock of the current situation.
There were around two thousand five hundred and fifty seven planes left. Even if the mana web that stretched through the sky had sent many plummetting to their doom, the fact still remained that there were just too many of them.
However, with Sierra's web, she could actually pull something off...
Lorem Elipson Arthaeid Pollonius, Ivec O Trenst et Arc du Igles.
This was the same light web spell that she had used on Shirou. Only this time, it had no need for amplification, so she put more power into the output instead.
Ventris!
A bright light charged through her hand, and slowly collected.
It launched.
The light beams arced across the sky, like a massive single-colour fireworks display. They bounced through the web, decimating any planes that came within two hundred metres of the shield.
But that wasn't all yet.
Elipson von Nipser, Reas!
The light disappeared. Fifty little white balls took their place, collecting light from the surroundings. The first rays of light from dawn were quickly compressed and absorbed, plunging the surrounding areas into darkness.
It continued like that for five seconds. Then, release.
The light beams shot across the sky, pure white light compressing itself into fifty laser beams that spun on a horizontal plane.
Like fifty Master Sparks.
Truth be told, Marisa had taught her how to spark. The only problem was that she did not personally have enough power to pull one off.
With Sierra's amplification energy it was more than enough.
But, with every laser, it still pulled huge amounts of mana through Kamin's system.
She dropped to the ground. She had to rest. For now.

{NUCLEAR FORCE SHIELDS OFFLINE. RECHARGING IN FIVE MINUTES.}
That was the signal.
Instantly, the two thousand two hundred remaining planes turned in toward the base, and fired off another volley of missiles.
Five thousand missiles sped toward the base, sixty-four missiles hankered after Tsubasa, fourty were primed on Yuki and fourty-six homed in on Kuroi.
It did not help that they were all magic users. The missiles had practically nothing else to lock on to.
The volley of missiles sped in toward the base. There was nothing to stop them now.
There was no time left. Everyone braced for impact. Then-
[Are the force shields still up?]
Suddenly, a voice over the intercom.
[Repeat, are the force shields still up?]
The commander in the control centre quickly pulled up the microphone, and replied.
"No, but who is this? No one else broadcasts on this frequency-"
[That's all I need to know, da ze~]
Instantly, a bright light appeared to the south-east, off the Dragnea's tail.
Three light green balls appeared in the middle of Dragnea.
"Psalm 11:5-7. The Lord examines the righteous, but the wicked and those who love violence his soul hates." A disembodied voice floated over through the air, echoing even though there was nothing to echo from.
The first green ball started to glow.
"On the wicked he will rain fiery coals and burning sulfur; a scorching wind will be their lot."
The second green ball took on a brilliant shine.
"For the Lord is righteous, he loves justice; upright men will see his face."
The third ball lit up, and the three started to spin together, faster and faster, lighting up the base in an eerie green light.
"Divine Firestorm of St. David!"
The balls stopped in space. Then a tremendous wave of green fire burst out in a huge sphere.
The waves washed over Dragnea base and flooded everything, but the only thing anyone could feel was a slight tickling.
The planes, however, burst into flame and plummeted to the ground below.
Like cicadas after summer, Mikoto thought.
The green flames dissipated to reveal someone floating in mid air over the base.
The unmistakeable black hat and the huge mess of frills. That messy blonde hair.
"Marisa Kirisame, at your service da ze!~"
She stopped near Mikoto, allowing Jasper to get off.
"Here's a new guy for ya! Take 'im, name's Jasper ze~. I'll handle the air defence from here. Got a friend comin' in soon. You guys go prepare for the drop again ze~."
Mikoto gave a thumbs-up to Marisa, and punched in a few commands on the input panel nearby.
"Come on guys, it's time to go. 180 seconds to drop."
{WARNING: ADDITIONAL CONTACTS. FOUR FIGHTER AIRCRAFT LAUNCHING FROM NEUMANN.}
Four. Just four. A sudden stillness descended over the base.

Oh shit...
He saw it clearly. With the light from the rising sun coming from behind him, a mass of planes, were coming his way. After taking down that small group of planes earlier, more arrived. And this time, they gave him some "entertainment".
The forty-six missiles raced towards him. He looked up, his trap that he set up earlier, though not much of purpose, was dropping back down due to gravity.
"Righto! Kassei!"
Activating the only one on his right fist, it conducted the other eight MLDs in front of him. Standing on his magic circle, he threw four onto it, in the shape of a square. Four above just above his head in another square and one each, directly above him and directly below him. All ten MLDs were put to good use.
"One more time! KASSEI!!!"
At the close proximity of the daggers, they formed a steady electrical barrier around him, as if he was the head of a gigantic phage. Except that the barrier he made was a much simpler shape as compared to an icosahedral. Although he may not suffer damage from the direct hit, the impact would still be a problem. He braced himself for what was about to come next.
The impact from the missiles were just too great. His barrier only lasted for forty-two missiles.
"Arrgghh!!!"
He was knocked off his magic circle, which disappeared. Along with his 10 MLDs, they plummeted down to the base. He could only see the five missiles getting closer and closer as his vision started to get blurry. And then, he drifted out of consciousness...

"Evocatio valcyriarum."
Tsubasa sent one valkryie after Kuroi, while flanked by thirty-nine other. These beings were magical by nature too, and she sent them out to intercept.
"Flans Paries Aerialis!"
Tsubasa threw a shield over Yuki.
"Now for the twenty five others. I suppose Yuki will be able to handle, no?"
"Veniant Spiritus Aeriales Fulgurientes... Cum Fulguratione Flet Tempestas Austrina..."
The rest of missiles were already almost slamming head on.
"Jovis Tempestas Fulguriens!"
The missiles were already too close though, and the resulting explosion nicked her.

All the planes were gone, in one shot. That was largely to be expected the moment Marisa arrived, considering the sheer devastating power that she had under her control. Which was why Yuki felt like yelling at her for being late, but he was a little far away for that, and he had better things to worry about. Like the missiles heading towards him and the missiles heading towards Kuroi. If he did nothing about those, both of them would die. Heck, Kuroi would die from the fall anyway, so he definitely needed help.
Missiles lock onto magic readings like they do heat, which means if I mask Kuroi's magic with my own, I should be able to have all those missiles lock on to me instead. What happens then, I'll handle then.
Kuroi was rather weak right now, so his magic signature was not very strong, a blessing in this case. Completely immersing him in his own magic was not going to be difficult, so he did just that. Ignoring the fact that he was in (considerably slower than normal) free fall, he guesstimated Kuroi's mana pool and concentrated, engulfing him in a black sphere that left gravity's pull on him weak enough that he would fall rather gently onto the base.
They shouldn't be able to aim for Kuroi now, so I should start taking care of myself.
"Time to kill these gravity locks then, I suppose." He told himself, grimacing as he cancelled his own magic, suddenly increasing the speed of his fall to match everything else. The effects of doing such a thing was obvious. It left the wind whipping at his entire body as he plummeted, steadily heading towards terminal velocity.
I guess I'll be doing my own drop then.
He covered every part of his body with the point defence nanobots as he curled up into a fetal position, feeling the impact of each missile exploding against his barrier, knocking him around even as he fell.

Did you feel that? When I sent that spell out, someone's lifeforce got dragged along with it - that's not a good sign, considering that I'm going to need that network up there. Who's the martyr?
Disregarding the ongoing massive explosions, Venser swiftly identified the source of the mana web - Yuki's sweet baboo. She was single-handedly maintaining the web using her own energy, which put a significant toll on her whenever it was used to channel a spell.
I'd applaud her ingenuity and magnanimity, but we'll wind up killing her if she keeps this up. But I can't very well ask her to drop it - that would be crippling our ability to manipulate the battlefield.
It looks like I'll have to help her out directly. Let's hope she, or anyone else, doesn't mind my... involvement.
Reaching out to Sierra's back, he traced a rune onto the back of her neck - his personal magical signature. As he finished writing, he felt his field of consciousness expand to cover hers.
"Pardon my intrusion, and thank you for your magic. Please don't worry about that sigil on you, it's completely benign. Sorry about that spell earlier, by the way. I didn't realise that you'd end up suffering. I'm here to stop that from happening. If I overlay my magical presence onto yours, I can prevent you from suffering any feedback from spells being sent through your network."
That much was true. By augmenting her mana web with his influence, he could stabilise it manually, and allow spells to be channeled through it without ill effect to her. It would take some mana from him, certainly, but that was to be expected.
That's one problem taken care of, and it seems that the initial barrage has been dealt with. What's next?

Jasper saw the black sphere engulf Kuroi, and realised that Kuroi would be safe for the time being. Yuki, on the other hand, was about to be turned into some kind of meatcake by the fall. Even though he knew that Yuki would try to save himself, Jasper couldnt help but turn his attention to Yuki and slow his fall, simultaneously pushing away anything that got close to him.
Just what is going on?
