Master Gunnery Sergeant Avery Johnson
"Nah, even if you return it I'm not gonna take it. I guarantee you, you'll find a use for everything you got later. No kidding. When you've got no paper to wipe your ass with you gotta learn to use leaves."
Johnson turned to the new guy.
"I don't know what's your problem, son, but 'extremely accurate gun' just ain't gonna cut it. I could give you a sniper that takes out someone a mile away, or I could give you a bloody tactical nuke launcher with a five click radius. They're both accurate, yeah? C'mon, ask me for something less godawfully dumb."
33rd Knight - Misaka Mikoto
The small bunch that had previously been following her had now all but disappeared.
"Erm, guys? The drop's in three. Get ready."
Four contacts. The significance of this number was overwhelming.
The previous wave of planes had come in their thousands. Now they were sending four.
{ATTENTION: CONTACTS IDENTIFIED. FOUR FIGHTER AIRCRAFT. STATUS ELEVATED TO RED ALERT ALPHA. ALL BATTLESTATIONS FIRE AT WILL. REPEAT, FIRE AT WILL.}

What a time to toss insults
"Can i have the NT Systems AP-I Lightning Arc MkIII then? Is it powerful enough to destroy a plane if i get close enough?"

Lying on the ground, with nanobots still shielding the sun from Kuroi Tsuki, he stirred a little.
"Aaaooww..."
He grimanced in pain as he tried to sit upright, and the nanobots dispersed, going back to Yuki. He lay back down, using his hands to massage his temples, trying to sooth the pain from the "roller-coaster" ride. He turned to look at the screen. Four contacts... The 64th to the 67th Knight...
Are we all ready to face them? Amongst us, we only have two people really adapt in aerial combat... One who can manipulate gravity, or something like that... Three who have powers associated with psychic... And last but not least... A healer.
Even in his current physical state, Kuroi Tsuki still wishes to help. He had always wished to play games like commanding his own army and watching them overwhelm others. However, Real-Time-Strategy games were not his type. All the micro-management screws up all his plans. He used to think if only there were a game with your units listening to your voice, and you can see the whole terrain of the battle, along with his strategic mind, he would never lose.
Now, in a super-high-tech-floating-base. He was sure the technology would be able to fulfill his wishes. But there was a problem. It isn't a game. Its the lives of his new met friends at stake.
"Hey sarge, mind getting everyone a mike sorta thing? For us to communicate effectively even when we're separated. And could I use the screen to show the whole terrain of the battle field?"
He questioned as he turned over onto his side and forced himself to stand up. Staggering and swaying a little on the spot.

Kamin was already long at the drop point. Everyone else seemed to be completely ignoring Mikoto, though.
Military procedures make no sense to civilians - Kinda expected. I'm a military nut and all so yeah.
"Well, no time to waste. I'm going down to set up a scouting position. Give me a data uplink for the coordinates and the plan of the base."
With that, Kamin jumped down through the drop point, feeling the antigravity well slowing down her descent to the surface.
Marisa and her friend can handle the four. We've got other priorities.

Watching Kamin jump down the rabbit hole, Venser realised that the 'drop' they'd been waiting for had finally been established.
Perhaps you should follow. This place should be able to defend itself.
Hm. Taking the fight to the enemy isn't really to my taste, but you have a point. There's something I need to do first, though.
Taking Sierra by the hand, he gently but firmly led her along with him.
"Our services are required elsewhere. Come, retract your mana network - you'll need to employ it again in the near future."
He attracted the attention of the officer in charge of weaponry.
"Excuse me, sir. Do you have anything that can be used to replenish magical energy while on the go? Once I'm down there, I don't know what I'm going to be facing, but it seems prudent to prepare for the worst."

"I can't hold any longer. Too bad, the timing's inconvenient too. I'll use the last bit of energy for regeneration."
Tsubasa had finally peaked into exhaustion. The stress of multi-casting many higher level spells had accumulated throughout the period of time she had maintained a higher level form, and it broke her mana circulation instantaneously.
I have no sense of time management, really.
Life force ebbed away as she coughed up blood. The effects were overly taxing, and Tsubasa could hardly stand anymore.

Sierra was being led again, but she didn't mind that much. She never put too much thought into where to go next. Following and assisting this group had always been her first priority. Nevertheless... "Thank you for helping me, Venser." Somehow, our roles got switched... Sierra wasn't quite sure how she felt about that. She frowned at her own weakness. However, now we are moving to a different location. I hope everyone is strong enough to go. She thought as she sensed that some people in their group were nearing exhaustion. Heal. She breathed softly and began to sing. It wasn't as loud and powerful as her usual song, but it was enough to get everyone back on their feet and forget their aches and pains... for their next misadventure. ((OoC: I don't have enough time on this comp to check everyone's HP, but I assume that we'll be somewhat healed for the next battle, so this is just to wake everyone's lazy butt up. ))

"Erm... Thanks Tsubasa." Yuki murmured as he walked out of his nanobot sphere, retracting it into its ball form, as he continued his stride towards the drop point.
He could have done perfectly well just falling all the way down without taking any real damage if he timed his magic right, so what Tsubasa did was mostly unnecessary, but there was no harm done, so there was also no need to blame her for anything.
Hopping down the drop point, Yuki's eyes and mind went into overload. With gravity control came a number of secondary powers that were essential to working the primary magic in the first place. Foremost amongst these was the ability to see and sense gravitons, changes in gravity, and how exactly gravity worked. There were many analogies Yuki could use to bring the point across, but right now, the technology that was at work was so incredibly forced, so brutal in its effects that he could not help but stop and stare. Conscious thought was rather out of the question at the moment.
It was like a bomb exploded in his head, as he subconsciously analysed the entire technology that powered the gravity well, watching how it streamed and warped space-time for its own ends. Yuki could do the same thing, but it would be much more localised and would generally only work on one object, but this, this was different.
It was beautiful.

Kamin touched down softly on the ground. The antigravity well hummed around her.
Neumann was huge.
What caught her eye, however, were the huge towers that encircled the base.
A large metal ball mounted on top of a metal pole. The distinct sound of ionizing air could be heard around them.
Lots of things in this Roundtable seem to ionize air.
Needless to say, they were a major threat. There was a lack of methods to take them out - if this had been when they were ill-equipped to handle almost anything.
Kamin flipped the Hammer in her hand.
She just had to wait for the rest to get down first.

Master Gunnery Sergeant Avery Johnson
Johnson threw a Lightning Arc over to Jasper, then considered Venser's request.
"Something that replenishes magic power?"
Johnson laughed bitterly.
"Look here, son. I didn't even know this magic thing existed until I got sent here as an ambassador from the UNSC to New Technia. I was quite surprised myself, but needless to say, there ain't such thing here."
He got up and walked to the back.
"What I do have here is biofoam. If you wanna talk in terms of HP and MP, this would be a HP 'potion', so to speak. When you get injured or something similar, just spray this in the hole. It'll hurt like a bitch but it'll regenerate cells to heal you instantly. It's an artificial stem cell product, though, so if you're against that kind of thing you're free not to take it."
He also threw another bottle over.
"This isn't an armament per se, but heavy tequila's always good for me to replenish my energy. Just one mouth and voila, I'm up and running again."
[[Yes, tequila does raise MP. One mouth for full recovery. Don't ask why. Side effects do exist, though. You'll get drunk eventually, it's just a matter of time.]]
33rd Knight - Misaka Mikoto
Mikoto watched as Kamin jumped into the antigravity well. The four planes were still heading toward them.
"Marisa, do you think you can handle them for me? I've gotta go set up a support first."
Marisa flashed a thumbs-up. "No probs, da ze~! Just do your best! Get my bomb back for me, yeah?"
Mikoto smiled.
"Let's go, Yuriko."
With that, the two jumped down the rabbit hole.
World Without Boundaries Elite Ops Team
The four planes cruised in on full afterburner.
Even as the SAM and anti-air sites fired, all four planes jinked lightly, slighting their wings with such precision their paths were almost unaltered as bullets and missiles missed by mere centimetres.
It was ace piloting at its best.

'Hmm, I guess I can be helpful once in awhile..'
Sol prepared himself to jump into the pit. But before that, he created a mp crystal and threw it at Venser with a note attached.
You did say anything right?
And with that Sol leap, following the others.

Stepping lightly onto the ground, Yuki walked out of the antigravity well with a slight headache, as if he had seen something beyond what any mortal men should have witnessed. Which was true, to an extent. He could make an antigravity well, but one as massive as that, and capable of permanence no less, was not something he was meant to comprehend just yet. Comprehension was understanding, understanding was the basis of magic, and magic was power. At least, that was what he had learned, and it worked in reverse too. Without strong magic, it was nearly impossible to understand another strong magic, and strong magic and powerful technology were nearly indistinguishable.
"So Kamin, do you know what that tower over there is? Because from what I can see, it seems to be ionising air, and I have a gut feeling that somebody is pointing something at us. Worst case scenario, we all get shocked to death."
Then he noticed that she was holding her Hammer of Dawn, and he smiled. This was an enemy base after all, everything inside it was going to be fair game, was it not?
"Unless we get them first."
He drew his own Hammer as well.

Ah, the wonders of modern technology. I expected a high-tech mana-replenishing gadget and I get a bottle of hooch. Well, it's not like I haven't had my fair share of casting under intoxication. I'd prefer port, but I suppose this is no place for vintages.
"Thank you both, gentlemen. I'm sure these will suit my purposes."
He caught the crystal that Sol had thrown to him, and kept everything in one of his voluminous pockets.
If said purposes involve getting hammered in enemy territory and doing stupid stuff, anyway.
Oh, like that time in Andante when you -
Yes, yes, I know, and I'd like to avoid repeating that incident if possible. This crystal's really more my speed. When I relearn Conjuration, I really must pick it up again.
Waiting for Sierra to finish the last notes of her subtly beautiful melody, he led her to the drop.
"We really must be going, lest the fine folk we're assaulting begin to wonder about the giant tube of energy next to their base. Your chariot awaits, milady."
They stepped into the well. The ride down the giant tube of energy was uneventful.
Emerging from the drop, they joined the others, grouped around the vicinity. Kamin and Yuki had pistols out, and had them aimed at a nearby structure.
"Hello there. What do you all plan to do now, other than blow that building up?"

Kuroi Tsuki was starting to get impatient while waiting for the sarge, who obviously forgot about his request. However, the soothing music that Sierra sang calmed his nerves, and he felt much better, physically, as well.
He cleared his throat.
"Ahem, sarge? Umm... How about the mikes? And a portable visual of the terrain?"
The moment he got them, he would immediately descend from the anti-gravity well, and hand them over to the rest of the team. Besides participating a little in the battle, he wanted to help devise plans to tear down the enemy's defense.
He looked at his feet as he pondered. Then he smiled to himself, already, he had come up with a very good idea...

Master Gunnery Sergeant Avery Johnson
"Oh yeah, the mikes."
Johnson reached overhead, and brought down a bottle. He emptied a few out into his hand.
"These are direct implants that are absorbed through the digestive system, so no need for ear mikes that can drop out and stuff - these are direct feed. They may feel a bit weird at first but trust me, they're good."
He put them in a small sachet and passed it to Kuroi.
"We all have these in us. You know how Mikoto seems to know everything the instant it happens? This is how she does it."
He made a small circle on his left forearm with his index finger.
"This changes the frequency of the transmitter. Use it to establish a channel of contact."
He proceeded to prod his left hand with his middle finger.
"This turns it on and off. Useful for personal situations. As for controlling the actual broadcasting of thoughts, this thing reads brain waves pretty well. We tried brainwaving everything but people weren't used to turning knobs in their head, so we used a pseudo-interface instead. Now the thing only reads the thoughts you actually want broadcasted. All speech gets transmitted, though, so you'll have to turn it off before you speak."

Receiving the lightning arc, Jasper proceeded to weigh it in his hands.
it's a tad heavy for my liking, but guess it'll have to do
"Um, sarge, i would like the 'tinkerbell' nanobot defense system too."
My plan for preventing those pilots for destroying the base will only work if everyone is cooperating. Guess the bomb's still more important afterall...
Jasper's extremely intelligent mind whizzed past the plans he had concocted since he has reached the base, all the while looking back at the "sarge" expectantly.
Darn! No one wants to keep others waiting... And they're all waiting for us to get ready...

"Cool. Thanks a million."
With that, Kuroi Tsuki sprinted to, and leaps down the anti-gravity well.
"Take these guys. Direct mike implants into your body. This changes the frequency... And this turns it on and off... And if you think out loud, its broadcasted to all of us as well..."
Kuroi Tsuki explained the device to the rest, demonstrating the actions to use the implant. After which, he wasted no more time, and swallowed that "thing" whole.
A gradual chilly sensation swept through his body. He shivered slightly. Prodding his left hand with his middle finger, he turned on the transmitter, and with his index finger, he fiddled with the frequency.
Then, he too, took notice of the sound of ionising air, coming from a huge metal ball on a metal rod in the distance.
"Testing, testing... You guys ready?" Kuroi Tsuki spun around to face Yuki, his eyes sparkled with hope and determination.
"Yuki, would you be able to make an anti-gravity cannon-like thing? It could easily send all of us into the heart of the base. From there, we'll turn the whole place upside down, downside up, outside in and inside out."
I'll head to somewhere higher up, where I can see everything going on, and enter the field when I can...[/u]

"Anti-gravity cannon huh? I guess I could do that, but projecting anything more than negative 2Gs is going to be annoying as I am now, not to mention there are quite a number of us, even if a large group of us can fly and all."
Yuki considered Kuroi's plan out loud as he popped the microphone into his mouth, pulling the mouthpiece on his armour off and throwing it aside as he did so. It was not as though the armour really did anything useful nowadays, considering the scale of attacks and his new nanobots, so taking it off was overdue by now.
"Although I guess I could reduce our weights to near zero, then use the Hammer of Dawn to create an explosion large enough to send us towards the base by riding on the shockwave..."
Although honestly, that would end up killing half of us if done wrongly, so that plan's out of the window too.[/u]
"The best way to do this, I feel, to just charge in after taking out the perimeter defences with our heavy artillery. They just wasted three thousand planes against Marisa, and they seem to have sent their top aces into the skies to do battle with the base itself, so we should have a free run unless their land forces are even bigger than their air force, which I doubt is going to happen."
Of course, if their army really is that big, then we were pretty much screwed from the beginning anyway... He thought inwardly, taking care not to transmit those thoughts.

40th Knight - Yuriko Omega
Mikoto and Yuriko landed lightly after everyone else.
Yuriko immediately noticed the towers.
"Tesla coils. I hated those things."
For good reason. Tesla was widely considered to be the ultimate base defence system - even more so than Spectrum - back in her own universe.
Those things had serious firepower.
They were, of course, out of range at the moment.
At that moment, fifteen missiles shot straight up into the air from the inside of the base, broke apart into dozens of warheads, and rained down upon them.
I really hate the Soviets.
SRA-AIB V-4 Rocket System
The SRA-AIB V-4 Rocket System was invented by the Soviet Red Army as a cheap alternative to the otherwise expensive Tesla Bombardment System proposed by Dr. Nikolai Tesla. Its range is very large, and it also has the ability to fire spread-shots for anti-infantry capabilities.
Master Gunnery Sergeant Avery Johnson
"Doggone it, just take the damn thing and leave already! Follow your damned orders, son!"
Johnson practically threw the nanotech system at Jasper and shoved him out the armoury.
"The drop point's over there. Now get down and do something!"
World Without Boundaries Elite Ops Team
The four planes closed in on the base, and started firing their machine guns. Armour-piercing rounds rained down upon the floating base. In less than seven seconds, every single anti-air cannon and SAM site had been reduced to piles of smouldering rubble.
There was nothing to oppose them now. Or at least, so they thought.
Mobius One noticed a flare on his radar.
"NON-DIRECTIONAL LASER!"
Instantly, a point of light that had been floating inconspicuously somewhere over the eight control tower burst into a huge wave of light, compressing itself into seven lasers and gyrating around a central axis. The sheer power of the lasers caused intense turbulence in the air, and carved swathes of concrete out of the ground from the wind pressure alone.
The four planes instantly pulled around to face the newfound threat.
"This base, is under my protections, ze~! And I'm nots gonna lets you touch it!"
Marisa was standing on her broom fifty thousand feet over thin air. She pulled out a small paper card from her pocket.
"Let's sees you handles this. Star Sign [Milky Way]!"
An explosion of multicoloured stars burst into the air.

(O(rly)OC: Don't be too sure about that.)
"I am afraid that I must respectfully decline."
Venser eyed the pills that Kuroi was offering with suspicion. Taking candy from strangers never worked out well for anyone, but his concerns were more well-founded than that. Foreign objects implanted into his body would most likely interfere with his ability to phase into the æther, or simply get left behind when he did so. Besides, he had better means of communicating with people over a distance.
"Do not worry, though. I will be able to retain awareness of your thoughts, even if we have to take different routes. Most of you were affected by her song earlier, am I correct? Remnants of her influence remain on your auras - and by proxy, so do mine. The explanation behind this is complicated and would probably bore you, but please trust that I will be privy to whatever messages you might see fit to relay."
And perhaps a little more than that.
He didn't mention his afterthought, though.
As Sierra had been bearing his sigil when she sang her song of healing, his magical presence, passively attached to hers, had been absorbed into the bodies of those who were healed. He could make use of this lingering magic to extend his ability to read minds, even if they were located beyond his usual area of influence.
"And yes, I'll be able to respond. I can make the mental link work both ways if need be. A problem does occur to me, though. If any of you weren't around when she was singing, you won't have the aforementioned influnce on you... fortunately, this is remediable. You need only ingest or otherwise absorb some water or similiar liquid produced by Sierra in order to gain it."
Glancing around at them, he tried to remember if any of them hadn't been around earlier.
"Does anyone require this service?"

Sierra stared at Venser in surprise. He was far more adept at the workings of magical influence than she thought. I never thought any human capable of being able to manipulate mana as well as mana herself. She mused, referring to her herself. She had also refused the implanted microphone because it would not function correctly within her vessel. Simply because it was created by myself, and not by nature. But there was something else to worry about for the moment. "Please do not concern yourself with that, Venser." Sierra said, and a second afterward, she blew out a breath of misty crystals. Water infused with her mana. It floated around her for a moment, and then expanded dramatically over the entire group. "Those missiles are coming, so we'd better move." She indicated simply. Her mist was there already, just in case a makeshift barrier was needed, but she hoped that she would not have to rely on that. Her control over super-hard ice was imperfect at the moment. ((OoC: From now on, any water infused with her mana can be used by other people. This one in particular is more condensed than the one from before, so it should work better for amplification where the other worked for range. It does have a mana penalty for her though. ^^; )

The sound of ionizing air again.
This time, it was accompanied by the sharp crackle of electricity.
Mikoto had her arm raised high, and a lance formed of sheer lightning glowed dramatically in her hand. She threw it into the air, where it exploded in a cold wave that glowed bright like the sun.
The warheads dropped harmlessly to the ground.
"I need you guys to find a way to remove those base defenses. Both me and Yuriko don't have the range to do it. They shouldn't have any anti-air at the moment - those towers are completely useless against air attacks - so I guess with flight capabilities, it might be possible to infiltrate without having to face those tesla towers."
Mikoto had noticed the Hammers that Kamin and Yuki were holding.
"Those are useful most of the time, but Tesla towers take about thirty seconds each to destroy with those things because of an in-built electricity field that disrupts ions in the air. There are ten Tesla towers in all. They've already noticed our position. We'll buy time for you. Make your decision quickly."
World Without Boundaries Elite Ops Team
The radio crackled to life as the base relayed the news of the small ground troop that had assembled near their base.
None of the four responded.
They were busy dodging stars that gyrated slowly in the air.
Lautern One maneuvered into position, and squeezed off two hundred shots at Marisa.
"Oh, you think that's gonna work, ze~?"
Marisa's figure flashed in the air.
Level 70 Grazing.
It was like Neo in the Matrix all over again.
