Kuroi Tsuki respected Venser's and Sierra's decision to not use the implants, after all, he wasn't all that knowledgeable in magic.
Kuroi Tsuki scanned the nearby buildings, and located the tallest one.
Off we go then people! If anyone wants a shortcut up that building, follow me...[/u]
He ran right up to the side of the building, and jumped right onto the wall.
"Climbing the heights, defying gravity. Reaching to the sky, take me to my destiny!"
A magical path appeared along side the wall right up to a tenth story window, any further and he would need to spend more Mana. He leaped onto it, and his feet seemed to be adhered to it, but in fact, the path allows all who step onto it to defy gravity, as long as they are in contact with it. However, it won't last too long.
As he sprinted up to the window and readying his WaveForce Katana, he threw his normal dagger right through the glass with his left hand, shattering it. He then jumped into the new enclosed environment.

After being tossed unceremoniously out of the armoury, Jasper headed straight to the drop.
Whats wrong with stocking up! Afterall, it probably will save my ass
Looking up, he spotted the four planes in the sky dancing around the stars floating around the place.
Wow Marisa's doing a great job! Hope these guys dont spot me
Leaping into the drop, Jasper felt his first experience of (not-so-free)fall. Immediately, he almost puked when he felt himself dropping.
I've gotta get used to this, or i wont be able to fly around without puking...
Jasper reached the motley group just as they watched Kuroi Tsuki leap up the building. Ingesting some water from Sierra, Jasper turned to face the group.
"Whats the plan?"

"Kuroi, you idiot." Yuki muttered as he turned the microphone inside his body off, making sure that his speech and thoughts would not be accidentally transmitted while he decided on a course of action.
Thirty seconds for each Tesla Coil was way too long. There were any number of factors that could do them in in the three hundred - one hundred and fifty if they used both - seconds it would take to finish all of them off. There had to be something else that could be destroyed more easily, and would be far more crippling to the enemy.
"Something as massive as that, made to shoot lightning no less, must eat a lot of power, much less ten of them. We're looking at enough energy to power a small city for something like that, I should think. Even a whole nuclear reactor if we assume that all the functions of the base are supported by a single power plant. That, or hooking the entire thing up to a mage of Marisa's calibre, but I doubt that. Mikoto, Yuriko, do you know where something like that would be?"
Yuki's mind reeled with possibilities, his enhanced reactions also allowing him to take in the environment far quicker than most. Formulating plans was still all his own brains, but that was beside the point. He had always managed to come up with some sort of plan for any situation, even if it was not always the best plan ever.
"If we know where the power plants are, we can charge straight in then. Failing then, we could just copy Kuroi's recklessness and break into the buildings. The worst that could happen in those would be soldiers and maybe machine guns, which would certainly be preferable to dodging lightning bolts."

Sol took the device but decided not to consume it.
'Maybe I can pawn this or something..but first, time to try and do something bout those coils'
"Infinity Barrage.."
Roughly around thirty hammers appeared and began to fling themselves towards the nearest coil at 10km/h.

"We're schismatic as usual, no?"
Whatever goes. Even if we were to find the power plants, we'd have to plough through soldiers anyway. With technology like this, I doubt there will be any delay in relaying and transportation of soldiers, troops and whatnot.
However. / "However."
"There's a possibility that we can use the presence of the power plant to avoid explosive combat."
And what makes us think they shouldn't have shields around the power plant either?
Contemplation was never an easy thing for Tsubasa. She would follow any course of action that was offered anyway. Sol had already attacked while they were supposedly far out of range. Kuroi had went off on his own. Tsubasa would continue stoning.

[[OoC: Shadow, delete what you said about the power plants. Rules are that you don't determine things until NPCs or other players determine they are. Building positions are a absolute no-no, even by zhexuan's open-game concept standards. Unless you're building them. Ivan's ten-storey building was still fine but a major building like a power generator? No.]]
Kamin closed her eyes and sifted through her own mind.
Direct data uplink: New Technia's technology for implanting information directly into your head.
She had the entire base's schematics memorised.
"I have the power plants: they're located at a position near the back of the base. They're running off... they're running off Propella."
Kamin's eyes fluttered open.
She realised where the three thousand planes from before had come from. Where the four had arrived from.
Why New Technia's information on them included a complete immunity to passive magic.
And if that was the reason, then there would be more on their way.
The Propella centre at the back of the base.
Propella, in a large enough quantity, produces harmonically resonant magical power that rips apart the continuum fabric that seperates alternate universes.
There was a three-square-kilometre lake of it behind Neumann Base.
There was no shield. But it was physically impossible for any of them except ones with the least magical powers to approach the Propella plants. The resonant magical properties of Propella would override their mana circuits and kill them instantly.
That could be taken out - it was rather weakly defended, with only a few soldiers - but it was completely inaccessible to most of them, except those with super low amounts of magical potential.
Alternatively...
There were cables that ran underground that brought power to the Tesla towers. If those were shorted out it would be possible to bring them down for about fifteen minutes until the secondary wires were brought online.
Needless to say, the option of diplomacy was completely out of the question.
Kamin had no idea how to get this information to the rest, though. Except for one person.
"Venser. I've got several options we have right now planned out in my head. Can you help me transmit this to the others?"

The humming got louder.
The thirty hammers sped toward the coils.
Then, they broke apart in the air and disintegrated into dust.
Little arcs of lightning jumped between the particles that had formerly been part of a hammer.
The field that surrounded tesla coils made small-arms attacks essentially useless.

"Thanks, Kuroi."
Constantine swallowed an implant and headed for the hole.
"That doesn't look very friendly."
"I suppose it's the only way to Neumann, though. Here goes nothing."
Constantine jumped through the hole. When he emerged, he could feel his stomach in places where it wasn't supposed to be.
"Remind me... never... to do that again."
"I told you it didn't look friendly."
"At least we're here."
"Alert! Sir, I can sense a large electric discharge, coming from the base! Seems to be some sort of Tesla coil."
"Crude, but effective, I suppose. These things have to be powered by something. We'll need to get rid of the power source to stop them."
"Or we could always overload them. If you connect those things together, with the amount of power running through them, they should blow."
"But we're going to need one hell of a lot of wire for that."
He spotted Sol shooting hammers at the coils.
"Sol! Try wires instead! Make enough to connect two towers together, that should overload them!"
|

Post by Carillus on Aug 20, 2009 1:25:17 GMT 8
"That's not going to work. Or at least, not safely."
Kamin was still thinking about the schematics that had been uploaded to her.
"Connecting two of those things together is like short-circuiting a nuclear reactor. I know the amount of charge running through that thing - trust me, it's enough to power a small town for a week - and if it blows, there'll be at least fifteen tons of shredded, red-hot metal flying all over the place."
She motioned at them.
"Also, it's impossible to get within a five hundred foot radius without getting completely carbonized by that thing first. So actually laying the wires will be hard, unless we have someone completely resistant to that amount of firepower."

"Certainly. I wish they hadn't rushed in like that, though. We've shown our hand too early - now a change of strategy is required."
Wending through Kamin's thoughts, Venser picked out the relevant strategies, and relayed them to the others across the thought connection that he had established.
"Shall we also assume that if we idle here long enough, those towers will eventually destroy us? The enemy undoubtedly already knows of our presence, and it is only a matter of time before they send people to defend this area. If we do not remove the base defenses from the equation before that, our chances of gaining entry are basically nil.
Kuroi is already within the base, though I doubt that he will get very far without support. He is, however, decidedly less magically inclined than most of us here, and can therefore attack the energy source without fear of feedback. By my reckoning, you, Yuki, and Jasper would be most suited to taking down that pool, along with him. You will need to hurry to his position, though. He might not be able to handle this place's defenses on his own.
The rest of us must stay behind, but remain in the base to prevent the advance group from getting flanked - hence the need to consolidate our position here. Those towers must be neutralised... but the methods that he is employing seem rather misguided."
He watched Sol's unspectacular attack on a tower, and hypothesized that if hammers were unable to penetrate such a field, wires would be equally ineffective. There had to be a better way.
I think I have it.
"You know the layout of this base, don't you? Is there a transformer of some kind that those underground cables are connected to, and is it far away enough from the energy source that I can approach it safely?"

"A transformer..."
Kamin searched through her mental map.
"The primary transformer is right next to the power plant, so that can't be approached... Found it."
Kamin brought up the schematic into the surface of her mind.
"Secondary transformer off to the North-Eastern side of the base. Near the forest that forms West Orlania. Defended by a small contingent of troops, a single SAM missile site and... a man-operated WaveForce system."
Kamin sighed at the last bit. It being a man-operated system meant that it was undoubtedly more responsive than the flawed automatic systems that were always a few seconds slower at acquiring and decimating their targets.

Kuroi Tsuki landed safely into a corridor. He scanned up and down the corridor.
No one. That's weird...
Picking up his dagger in his left hand, he noticed a staircase nearby.
Now that should take me to the roof...
He proceeded cautiously, checking every turn and corner, peeking into rooms. But strangely, there was just no one!
Could it be that, this building was already evacuated during the attack that this place has launched on the Dragnea Base? Or worse... Has the whole darned country been evacuated already? And... No way... Is this a trap?!?!
Still, he made his way quickly up to the rooftop, twenty stories above the ground. Panting a little to catch his breath, he looked over the roof to see the rest of the team still gathered nearby. He took another general look of the whole place. The air was very still, and he didn't like it; it seemed too quiet to be an assault...
However, something finally caught his eye. In the direction of the nearest Tesla coil, silhouettes of some people can be seen advancing quickly to the team's position.
Hey guys! You might wanna stay alert. This whole thing may just be a trap. And more importantly, I suspect that there are some resistance force are headed in your direction. From the nearest Tesla coil![/i]
He strained his eyes as he focused onto the moving silhouettes, hoping that they are not what he fears...

"There's SAM site, so that means flying in would be stupid. On the other hand, that's about the only way to be fast enough to keep out of the WaveForce defence system's sights, especially if it's man operated. That is to say, I'm the only one who can take the transformer out."
Yuki was the only member of the team who was really fast on foot, so it made sense. Plus, he had his nanobots to help him with any stray shots that might come his way. The troops would be an issue, but if his primary objective was to blow the transformer, he could still succeed regardless. What came after would be handled after that. What mattered was disabling the base defences.
"So I guess I'll be going then. Somebody stop Kuroi from getting his face blown off."
Dropping into a sprinting position, Yuki quickly broke into a full sprint, dashing towards the location of the secondary transformer. His maximum foot speed was over 100m/s, meaning that accounting for any loss in stamina, he could get just under 6km in one minute. More than enough to circle the base.
"And I can go just a little faster too." He muttered as he prepared a weight reduction spell.

Oh no, not more rushing off. With his capabilities, he'd be far more suited to attacking the energy source directly - he should be rendezvousing with Kuroi, not charging into the secondary transformer. We don't know how long it'll take to destroy it, and if we don't use the time that we do have as efficiently as possible, we'll lose the opportunity to take down the source.
Yuki. Don't head for the secondary transformer, we need you to head for the energy source with Kuroi. The rest of us can take on the defenses at the transformer, but we can't get anywhere near the energy source. If you attempt to destroy the transformer by yourself, everyone - you, Kuroi, the rest of us here - will be left in unfavorable positions. Meet up with him quickly enough - he's in a building nearby - and the two of you should be able to head straight for the pool and eliminate its defenses, while the rest of us take down the transformer.
Speaking into Yuki's mind, Venser hoped that he was astute enough to see the absolute advantage that he held over the rest of them, who were significantly more reliant on magic than he was.
Headstrong and trigger-happy. The kind of guy they'd call a Jenkins in a world not so far away.
Give him the benefit of the doubt. I have to trust that he knows how to not screw everyone else over.
In the meantime, he also had to get the rest of the group to the secondary generator.
"Everyone, we need to mount an attack on the secondary transformer immediately. However, it seems that there are enemy forces moving in on our position at the moment. If all of us move towards the transformer, we could easily be dispersed by the enemy, leaving the people attacking the energy source stranded. Some of us will need to stay behind to defend this point while the rest make a decisive strike on the transformer.
Sierra, Tsubasa, Sol - your abilities can all be used defensively as well as offensively, so you three should remain here to fend off potential attacks. Kamin, Constantine and myself will make for the transformer and down it as quickly as possible, then return to regroup with you all. Jasper, try and meet up with Kuroi as quickly as possible. Are there any serious objections to this course of action? If so, raise them within the next 5 seconds, or we will have to move out."

"No objections. In fact, I'd quite like to get near that thing. If I can get close enough to send my Iron Dust into the area around the transformer, I should be able to use the residual electricity coming from it to take out the humans in the area. Then we can safely deal with it. If, that is, we can get there without getting hit by the WaveForce system."
Constantine racked his brain, thinking of ways to get close to the WaveForce operators.
"Venser, you can make illusions, right? Think you could make us look like normal World Without Boundaries troops? That way I don't think visual scans will detect us. Let's hope they're not using bio-signatures or anything like that."

"That's a possibility, but there is one problem with it. I don't know what the soldiers here look like, so I can't create the appropriate disguises. Other than that, I think that this idea can be expanded on. If Tsubasa can summon some Valkyries, I can alter their appearances to make them look like us, and make us look like soldiers chasing them. If they fall for it, it should allow us to get close enough to their defenses to render their heavy artillery irrelevant. However, this is assuming that they can't distinguish between magical forms and actual lifeforms.
Kamin, could you find some answers? I need to know what the soldiers here look like, and whether they can identify us even through illusions."

Magical and life forms..? Sierra pondered as she heard Venser's projecting his thoughts. "If their scans do differentiate between those, it's possible for me to go as a magical form with the Valkyries... But I can also stay here at the same time. It.. ah.. is within my ability." She stammered at the end. Even though most of the group might have figured it out to some extent already, she didn't want to explicitly state that she was not human. I'm sure it would not be too much trouble for the spirits if I made a water double of myself here.((OoC: Has everyone been healed by means of GM? >

((OoC: I don't remember that. I think everyone's still running on low-power. Still, some hooch should fix everyone up. Let's just take it that since the battlefield's changed we had enough time to regen.)) "You got it." Kamin raised her Barrett's scope to her eyes. I really should get some binoculars or a spotter scope or something."At the secondary transformer. Can you see what I'm seeing now?" Kamin was peering through her scope at a soldier who was taking a smoke outside the compound. She felt inclined to squeeze the trigger, but held back the urge. "Apparently, according to the intelligence the NRA gave to the New Technia Intelligence Agency, the soldiers in Neumann are 30% non-local. In other words, from other universes. " Kamin scoped another one, just for good measure and to get details that could not be seen on the previous one. "The ones from other universes seem to have at least Level 10 Passive Magic Resistance. The higher their ranks, the better their resistance to passive magic. Which means you need to expend more mana to maintain an illusion against them." The highest ranked person in the compound was a 2nd Lieutenant, which was a Level 20 PMR. That meant 300% the mana needed to maintain an illusion against him.

The microphone in his stomach still sounded really odd, but it was something he could live with. On the other hand, the message that he got was rather important and was something he had to pay close attention to. If he wanted the best for the group at least.
But still, Propella eh? I can't even touch my magic if I get close to the stuff. I would probably get crushed into my personal black hole or something. Still, fair enough. Kuroi! See if you can follow me![/i]
In fact, the best way to play safe near Propella is to make sure all my mana is depleted. I can recharge later, but for now...
"The magic should burn out by the time I reach the power source, and I can get there faster if I do this. I might break a bone if it goes wrong, but that's always been the danger of battle anyway."
Deploying all his nanobots in the form of a bullet shaped shield, Yuki concentrated all his magic onto himself, getting ready to do something completely reckless in the best of circumstances.
If gravity was attraction, anti-gravity was rejection. If the attraction was strong enough, even the strongest fighter would be pinned to the ground completely useless. If the rejection was strong enough, even the weakest of men could send themselves flying. If his weight was negative, the tiniest force, even convection, could send him into the air, and even a small jump would send him that much further, that much faster.
Negative twelve Gs, the anti-gravity cannon that he had not wanted to use on the whole team, he was going to use it on himself now.
A black sphere surrounded him, and he broke out of it at speeds that he could only assume was supersonic, more like a bullet than a human being. Now the difficult part was cancelling the spell before he got too close.

"That won't do. If even one person sees through the illusion, it'll be all for naught. Either I'll have to expend a great deal of my energy on this ploy, or we can simply ensure that the head honcho doesn't stick around to tell the lackies what's really going on. Can you take him out from a distance great enough that they can't tell who fired the shot?"
With the new information, Venser could project an illusion realistic enough to pass them off as local soldiers, but first they had to make sure that whoever was in charge of the defenses at the transformer couldn't see through his glamer.
I could channel more mana into it, true, but it really is simpler to remove him from the equation completely - we have the appropriate tools for the job, even.
"As long as we follow up as soldiers chasing the Valkyries disguised as us, they should assume that the party being chased are the ones responsible for assasinating their commander. Alright?"
He turned his attention elsewhere. It was apparent to him that Yuki had received his message, and was changing his target to the energy source. However, judging from the rather frenetic brainwaves that he was picking up, he could only conclude that not everything was going as planned.
Kuroi. From where you are, can you see Yuki? If you can, get to him as quickly as possible, and do anything you can to make sure neither of you dies.

In the tenth storey of a small abandoned building that had remained standing for some reason in the corner of Neumann base, a small trip wire got cut.
Instantly, four small cameras trained in on the position. From where they were, Kuroi was clearly visible.
Two Tesla coils started charging. The humming suddenly multiplied in degree, changing from a low hum into an urgent buzzing. Arcs of lightning started to fly around the edges of the Tesla coils.
The target was the tenth storey of the small abandoned building left standing in the corner of Neumann base for no particular reason.

Got it. Imma go get into Yuki's draft...
But before he could do anything, an increasingly irritating noise bugged him. It grew louder and louder and he turned to look around.
There he saw, four small cameras, with their small lenses focused on him. At the same time, the buzzing got to his head.
"What the shhhh.... SHIKES!?! I don't remember setting off any trap... But... Damn THIS!!!"
Kuroi Tsuki exclaimed. He buzzing was extremely irritating to his slightly more sensitive hearing. He sprinted over to the nearest camera, and gave it a good smart kick, sending it flying up into the sky. He then threw his remaining 3 daggers into the scopes of the 3 other cameras, smashing them into pieces.
With that settled, he immediately jumped off the building...
"To the only route, set clearly for me. I shall reach my destination, without a hitch!"
Lunging from his magical platform, he landed right into the draft of Yuki's anti-gravity cannon.
"Wooow!!!"
He contained his excitement as he was caught nicely in it, staying close behind Yuki's tail.
Guys! I think I've been spotted. I took down the cameras already. But most importantly... The Tesla coils are gonna be a nuisance, please be careful...[/i]
